Experience What Makes Faulkton the "Carousel City"!
Welcome to Faulkton, South Dakota—proudly known as the "Carousel City." A highlight of our community is the historic C.W. Parker Carousel No. 825, affectionately called the "Happy Times Carousel."
History of the Carousel
This vintage carousel was crafted in 1925 by the renowned C.W. Parker Company of Leavenworth, Kansas. It features 19 of the original 20 aluminum horses and two chariot seats, one red and one blue. In July 1981, Faulkton resident Bob Ketterling acquired the carousel from an auction in Edgemont, South Dakota. He generously offered free rides to the public and envisioned developing "The Happy Times Park" around this cherished attraction. Following his passing in 1988, Faulkton honored his legacy by adopting the nickname "The Carousel City." In 1990, the city purchased the carousel, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
